Piece of Cake Marketing Coventry celebrates 3 years
As they say “time flies when you are having fun” and the 3 years since we created Piece of Cake Marketing have certainly flown.
The last 3 years have been full of joy, laughter, excitement, fear, anxiety, frustration, cake, tea and prosecco!
It has been a real journey and there have been many bumps in the road. But, we are still here, we are still enjoying what we do, we are continuing to grow and we are hungry for more.
We’ve summed up our journey in 3 songs…
“Life is a roller coaster just got to ride it”
Our journey to this point has definitely been a roller coaster. Up and down, fast and slow. We’ve learned to expect the unexpected but not to make knee jerk reactions to circumstances that arrive. We have a plan, we know where we would like to get to and we are willing to amend and adapt that plan if necessary.
NOT! Running your own business is definitely not a 9-5 job but it works for us and it gives us the flexibility we want to be there for our families.
“Girls just wanna have fun”
If there isn’t an element of fun in our work there’s no point in doing it. Work takes up such a large amount of your life and therefore we feel lucky to be doing something that we enjoy.
Thinking about starting your own business? Here are some of the things we’ve learnt along the way…
Having a strategy is key – where are you heading? What is your end goal? How can you break that down into smaller more achievable chunks?
Know your strengths and weaknesses and don’t be afraid to ask for help – look for courses that will help fill your skills gap or outsource areas you’re just not comfortable doing yourself. This will free up your time to work on the important things.
Celebrate your successes – It can be easy to let milestones pass or big successes in your business go by without being noted. Celebrate what you have achieved.
Build your circle – networking has been great for our business and not just in the direct sense of getting business. We’ve built up a great circle of new friends who are on a similar journey to us and can share in our experiences.
Say thank you – remember those that have helped you along the way. “Never let success go to your head, never let failure go to your heart”.
