Social Media Content Ideas for December

As autumn begins to wind down and winter creeps closer it is time to begin planning your social media content for the month of December. Social media content in December is both easy and hard at the same time. You may have lots of content with festive promotions to deliver however everyone is doing the same thing!

Put your energy into focusing on content that will really help your consumers at this time of year. How can your service or product go that extra mile for both the early keen Christmas shopper and the leave it to the last-minute shopper? Be sure to let the audience know your opening hours and the latest date that you can realistically be sending out items for guaranteed arrival. If you have gift items, can you offer a gift wrap service as that is sure to be a great hit!

There are so many ways to integrate Christmas into your social space, think about updating your header images with a Christmassy look, creating an advent calendar of special offers, or running a Christmas competition.

Although December will be filled with all things tinsel and baubles, there are other things to include in your social media content marketing.

The 4th is Tree Decorating Day, a chance to gather the community and celebrate the role that trees have in our local environment and across the world. It’s possibly a bit niche, but if the environment, community, and elements of faith play a part in your business, there could be opportunities here.

The traditional Christmas tree purchasing will be in full swing from the beginning of the month as people seem to be getting earlier with their tree lighting. If you have a delivery company, could you team up with a local nursery to deliver people’s trees? On your posts can you offer advice on how to keep your tree healthy and fresh for the whole month? Fun can be expressed in these posts; do you prefer a real tree or a fake one? How do you stop your kitten from climbing up your tree or your puppy from unwrapping the presents underneath?

Social media will be teeming with the standard ‘Merry Christmas’ Posts on the 25th. Christmas Day is, in fact, not the best time to post with the aim of engagement as most people aren’t on social media until later in the day as the morning is spent with family and friends, drinking bucks-fizz, and shaking presents to guess their contents before opening!

The sometimes-long days between Christmas and New Year can be filled with suggestions of what to do with leftovers, how to win (or cheat) on the popular boardgames and how to cope with Great Auntie Mary invading your space.

Boxing Day Sales begin early on the 26th and run all day, if you’re releasing any offers why not try to release your deals early and gather some interest before the madness begins. if you’re an estate agent or landlord, Boxing Day is the day with most searches taking place on sites like Rightmove…

When it comes to New Year do you have any advice that you can offer for those who are embarking on new adventures or challenges? What are your aspirations for 2023? And don’t forget to replace any Christmas-themed headers or profile images on your social spaces before the twelfth night!
