About the project

2022 – The year Birmingham hosted the Commonwealth Games.

The West Midlands Combined Authority wanted to ensure that all its residents had the opportunity to experience volunteering at the games. They set about putting into place a plan to work with partners throughout the region to enable residents who were under represented to apply to volunteer.



What We Did

We worked with the team at Phoenix Creative in a marketing consultancy capacity to photograph real West Midlands people to use at the forefront of our campaign. We looked to speak to these residents in a way that would appeal to them and communicate the benefits of volunteering. 

A host of assets were created to be used by The West Midlands Combined Authority and their partners to recruit volunteers alongside the main Birmingham Commonwealth Games campaign.

  • Early closure of the portal due to the organising committee hitting requirements ahead of the deadline.
