Google plus – what’s all the fuss about?

Should I use Google plus for my business?

Google plus or Google+ as it is more commonly known, the Marmite of social media networks.

Whether you love it or hate it as a social media network you need to seriously consider having a basic presence.  We know what you’re thinking … another platform to manage!  Don’t worry here’s our top tips.

Google plus

A recent Hootsuite blog quoted “ Unlike other networks, Google Plus has significant impact on SEO and search traffic volume.”

“Google Plus Pages for businesses are now managed through Google My Business, a platform that makes it easy for customers to find and connect with your company. Google My Business uses Search, Maps, and Google Plus to make your brand more visible in local search results. For example, when I search “coffee shops Coventry,” Google Plus listings are at the top of my search with all the relevant information”.

A Google+ business listing takes just minutes to set up and it can increase the amount of customers that find you whilst improving the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) ranking for your business.

The benefits of a Google+ business listing are –

  • Increase your visibility on local and mobile searches.
  • Enable customers to contact you simply via phone, email or direct to your website with just one click.
  • Allows customers to leave reviews and build the credibility of your business.
  • Allows customers to see your photos and YouTube videos easily.

So how do you go about setting up a Google+ business listing?

You’ll be prompted to choose a business category …

Storefront: Good if you’re a Restaurant, Shop, Hotel etc.

Service Area: Good if you’re a Plumber, Delivery Service, Taxi Driver etc.  If you run a service location and you’d like people to be able to identify your proximity to them, choose this option.

Brand: Good if you’re a Brand, Cause, Sports Team etc and your business doesn’t operate out of a specific location, this option is for you.

It can take some getting used to, but like we said make sure your profile and page is completed and then take some time to experiment. Good Luck and be sure to let us know whether you love it or hate it.
